Join us for this exciting finale event to close Inua Ellams’ virtual residency with Arvon. Poetry + Film / Hack presents both art-forms in collaboration, by adding live poetry readings to the viewing experience of magnificent films. We choose movies that are socially, politically or culturally resonant and by including poetry in their presentation, expand, deepen or highlight their themes. Written and directed by Anand Gandhi, Poetry + Film / Hack presents Ship Of Theseus, an astonishingly beautiful and emotive film set in India, which questions identity, justice, beauty, meaning and death through the stories of an experimental photographer, an ailing monk and an enterprising stockbroker.
In the days leading up to our event, we encourage our attendees to watch the film – which is available and free to view on Youtube – before attending. In our event, our esteemed poets – Sunnah Khan, Andrew McMillan, Ollie O’Neil, Warda Yassin, Inua Ellams and director Anand Gandhi – will discuss the film, debut brand new commissioned poems written about the film, before taking questions from our audience. This event is pay what you can.
Join us from the comfort of your sofa and listen to writers share their work, the stories behind their work, and invaluable writing advice directly from their desk (or maybe the kitchen table). And the best part? At the end, you get to ask them questions about their words, pick their brains on craft, and learn more about the business of writing. This session will be delivered via Zoom webinar, so you can take the session at your own pace, without the pressure of having your video or camera on. Sessions are also recorded so if you are unable to attend live, you will have access to the recording for a month afterwards.

I feel much more confident about short stories now! In such a short time I feel I was given such a great overview and the reader/tutor was so generous with their feedback and knowledge.— How I Write participant
Very lovely. It had an intimate feeling despite it being a Zoom event and all of us being in different places.— How I Write participant
